I was provided with an e-copy of this book in exchange for my hones review.

While vacationers are relaxing on the first space hotel they receive word that a flu outbreak has hit earth. As time moves on the word from home gets worse and worse until it becomes apparent they may not be able to return. As there is little in the way of food on the hotel, a group of volunteers heads back to earth for supplies and a return flight, but what will they find when they get there?

This book’s concept drew my interest and could have been excellent in the hands of a more experienced author. Unfortunately, the beginning is obviously a freshman novel and only rises to the level of sophomore by the end. I will say that the story kept me going and since there was growth, in both the writing and editing, by the end I may give the sequel a shot. With an editor and maybe one more draft this could have gotten four stars. If you can get past the first quarter of the story, it becomes interesting and even a bit exciting in the end. It just depends on your willingness to give leeway to a new author.

This is one of the things I don’t enjoy about reviewing new books by new authors, sometimes you have to be less than positive. I try to be as constructive as possible, but it still can be difficult. I don’t understand why an author does not have someone, or at least a program, edit their writing. Some readers might have stopped after the first few chapters and a new author does not need that to happen.

As I stated in my review, both the writing and editing got better as the story ended, but I don’t know if many will come back after having to slog through the beginning. Oh well, rant over and now I think I am going to read something very light to get me back into a happy reading mode.

I got very far behind in my reviews on Goodreads and think I will spend part of tomorrow entering the twelve or so reviews (yikes) which will get me caught up. I am still quite a few books behind in my 2018 challenge thankfully, there is another storm headed our way which might bring snow so I may get quite a bit of reading done this weekend also, wish me luck.

Until tomorrow, Good Night and Good Reading!
